Let's go for a walk? by Lizkay Let's go for a walk? by Lizkay
Complete and quick Tryou-out piece... which actually shows:
- a new technique for inking
- a new technique for shading
- a new technique for adding tones
- a partially new style

Well, Ricardo the Lynx-GoldenRetriever-Gryphon wants to go for a walk... ;p

personal Feedback on the tryout, specially like the new inking technique, Illustrator comes up with a nice freehand brush, which really creates very nice weight orientated defined lines, I am definitely going to use that in the future ;)
... oh and I know I promised to make a tutorial about reflections...

Just used Illustrator C2 for the lines ;) the other stuff is done in Photoshop, but at least this version of Illustrator comes up with a very nice freehand vector brush tool ;)

Great, except the head looks a bit too squashed vertically. Not much, but just enough to be out of proportion to the neck.

Yeah, the head looks over all a bit odd for my taste.. also overall too small for his quite big body ;)

I suppose it was just one of those weird mistakes that creeps in and you don't notice until it's too late to change. Fortunately, you don't make any mistakes very often (this is the first one I've seen).

I like it. I like the inking a lot. Illustrator gives me pains with the brush. :shakefist: I need to practice. :giggle:

Great! I think that style is particularly pleasing to the eye. :3 The graininess is a neat little texture to add! You should do a tutorial for this inking and coloring style, I'd die to be able to make some of my stuff look a fraction of this good!

hmm you know Lizkay you could do a whole series of griffon dogs, lol I so would like to see a Bassett/griffon or maybe a Afghan/ griffon, just imagining those ears makes me smile.

I am so envious of your shading, I desperately need to understand the basics, there are several pieces I need to complete but thus far as soon as I attempt to shade em, they are worst than bad.

I love the way he looks, he holds himself just like a retriever, very clever of you for chosing that particular pose. The line art looks really good, its a lot finer or seems so to me, your color work is just awesome. :+ fav:

I wish I could do more gryphon pieces, but lately my freetime is really limited, but at least I hope that I can make some more artwork of that kind in my holidays ;)

It is a lot faster than Photoshop, because you can adjust the lines and you don't need to erase and draw them new if they don't have the right angle for example ;)

the texture of the floor or the grain?
(the floor texture is from a little 3D progamm called "Simply 3D" and the grain texture is self-made using the noise filter) ;)

talkin' about the grain. Awsome, I totally never thought of using that. For some reason, lately I've notice how much depth these textures and grains can give to a picture.

The only thing I saw that appeared kind of awkward was that the face seemed kind of squashed and maybe a bit small compared to it's slightly bulky body. >>

But I loved the anatomy, and the way you did a reflection on the ground!

AND THE TAIIILLL!!! |D Such an awesome taaaaiiillll...

Overall, awesome work, as usual! :D
